Mortality/Incidence Rates

New statistics assembled by the CACC show Canada is losing ground to the U.S. in outcomes for cancer.

According to data prepared by the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries, 1993-1997 which ranks 12 Canadian provinces and territories and 50 U.S. states according to incidence and mortality for cancer, Canadians with cancer fare worse than their U.S. counterparts, even when adjustments are made for varying incidence rates. Significant and unexplained survival differences remain that are in part related to differences in screening and treatment. These differences suggest that the U.S. system provides better care.
